More options for Selection ratio

Postby Ralle » Fri Oct 09, 2009 4:28 pm

Hi,

I want to cut parts out of photos to use them for my desktop background.

Since I use a netbook with a screen size of 1024x600px, the ratio is 1.70666666.... which is not in the ratio list yet.

Please add that ! Or even better, add a function where the user specifies the final pixel dimensions of the cropped picture he wants, XnView then calculates the ratio and creates a selection locked to that ratio.

Thanks in advance !

+1, I support (eepc compatibility)
Plus an other free option (for a custom input ratio)
Like as, What has created the Universe (... including Humans) is an Universal Heritage, all that has been created by Men "through this Creator" must be at least a Human Heritage !

Selection ratio is one of the many things in XnView that should have (and would greatly benefit from) a user configuration interface with save, delete, re-order...

There's a configurable selection ratio which might help:
1 - Create a selection with the desired ratio
In your case you can
1a) Create a screenshot (PrintScrn),
1b) Insert it in XnView (Ctrl+Shift+V)
1c) Select the full image (Ctrl+A)
to get a selection with the desired ratio.
2 - Save this selection using "Edit > Set selection ratio > Save selection as custom"

From now on you can load the selection with your ratio using "Edit > Set selection ratio > Saved selection" (C)

So much for the theory and how it is supposed to work, unfortunately there are some bugs. E.g. when pressing "C" the full image is selected sometimes.
