Purging MRUs

Post by XnTriq »

Which settings are deleted if Purge 'Most Recently Used Files & Directories' on exit (Tools » Options... » Interface » Interface » Recent lists) is activated, and what gets deleted by executing Purge now?

PS: I'm asking because it might be worth considering to allow users to choose how much of the history is cleared.

Thanks!

When are the search-terms in Tools » Search... deleted?
Are the DirName_* entries in both the [File] and the [Start] section removed on exit?

Please take a look at this related topic, Pierre:
AdrianK_IT ([url=http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?p=129872#p129872]Search Function: Filename Drop Down Menu[/url]) wrote:Re the search function, have experimented further with that, and I can get the behaviour I desire. From a starting point of not remembering search terms, I launch XnView, deselect 'Purge ... on exit', search terms are then remembered. However, to clear search terms, I have to select 'Purge ... on exit', and then close and relaunch XnView twice! Bizarre!

The 'Purge now' option seems to have no effect whatsoever.
If I'm not mistaken, this feature was introduced mainly due to privacy concerns. So, yes, I think search-terms should be deleted too.
Here's what I meant by “allowing users to choose how much of the history is cleared”:
IMHO, the Purge now button should remove the same INI entries as Purge 'Most Recently Used Files & Directories' on exit.
I'm also suggesting to add a command to the File » Recent files menu for clearing the most recently used files list:
  • Fookes NoteTab: File » Reopen » Clear List
  • Notepad++: File » Empty Recent Files List
BTW: What are the DirName_* entries in the [File] section for?
