Won't you please consider offering support for Dicom medical imaging files.
These are the X-Ray files that your doctor gives you to take home.

Here is a freeware program that can open them but I'd like to keep XnView as my program for all picture files, even Dicom medical imaging files.

Here is a sample medical file that XnView should open just like microdicom can:

XnView can support the DICOM format for a longer time, now. The file extensions are .dcm, .acr, .dc3, and .dicom.

I've downloaded your DICOM file to check but displaying thumbnails or opening it failed:
Your DICOM file has no file extension, so with default settings XnView will not be able to recognize the file format unless you deactive setting "Recognize only by extension" (in Tools > Options | Browser > File list | "Misc" tab).

After unchecking the setting "Recognize only by extension" a thumbnail is displayed and I could open the DICOM image, but it didn't look right (bottom part is just black, top part looks like a random mix of black and white pixel):

Perhaps a variation of DICOM format that isn't supported by XnView, yet?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicom :
DICOM files typically have a .dcm file extension if they are not part of a DICOM media (which requires them to be without extension).
So presumably not a supported version of DICOM?

Freeware

opens the file just fine.

XnView opening it just like microdicom can is the point.

Looks like Pierre (author of XnView) has to look into this.

Very well.
What's the procedure to have Pierre look at this?

It's the weekend. Pierre usually responds to new posts by Monday.

Thanks for checking. Would it be possible to display a detailed error message?
