You didn't say if you were using XP or Vista.
In Vista, XnView did exactly what it should: it tried to send the email message using the email program specified as the system default in Windows. I also use Thunderbird, but it was NOT set as the default mail program. So when I tried to send an image from XnView, Windows Mail started up.
However, when I went to Control Panel ... Internet Options and changed the default email program to Thunderbird, then closed and restarted XnView, XnView used Thunderbird for sending an image just as it should.
So I would guess that you just have to set Thunderbird as your default email program. I'm almost certain this applies to, and works the same in, XP as in Vista.
