Hugin EXR problem

I have used Hugin (and XnView too) for years but only recently decided to try to use it to generate EXR files. My problem is that the XnView does not seem to recognize the EXR files generated by Hugin. Is it a Hugin issue, or did I miss a configuration in XnView? I did check the "Use all avaliable formats" option in XnView, but maybe this is not enough?
