automatically change metadata date on scanned photos

Post by ChaseMc »

I have scanned over 5000 family photos in 300+ folders and organized the folders with the following "yyyy-mm-dd folder name" ie: 1998-12-25 Christmas with the family

Is there any way for me to automatically change the photos metadata info date taken/created/modified based on the date in the folder?

Also, what metadata field should I change for most programs (including google photo online) so when it organizes by date it will see the date I want and not when I scanned it?

Thank you

The command is exiftool "-alldates<$directory 12:00:00" DIR

(use double quotes as above in Windows, or single quotes in Mac/Linux)

ExifTool uses some magic to pull any numbers that look like a date/time out of whatever string you assign to a date/time tag.
