Photoshop - Blank

Post by kamchow »

hi, i'm new to the forum. i did a quick check and did not find the answer to my problem. if it has already been answered, please point me to it. thanks.

i'm using photoshop (cc 2017).

i save a photoshop image, in psd format, with psd & psb compatibility turned on. i can view the psd image in xnview (v2.39).

i save the image with psd & psb compatibility turned off. i cannot see the psd image. it is blank/white.
i also get a "multiple pages" message.

so, is this a bug in xnview? or something new that has to be coded?

thanks.

info: photoshop -> Edit -> Preferences -> File Handling -> Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility.
choices: Always, Never, Ask.
file size is smaller if you don't choose to make it compatible.

Welcome to the forum, kamchow.

The layers of a PSD file are referred to as “pages” or “frames” in XnView. The shortcuts for Previous/Next frame can be customized in ToolsOptions...Keyboard/MouseKeyboard/MouseKeyboard.
As of now, XnView MP's support for the PSB format is more advanced as compared to XnView Classic.

XnTriq - thank you for your reply and suggestion.

i did a quick check with xnviewmp.
i saved an image as psd and psb. both with compatibility turned on and off.

the image was a simple one.
just one layer, 100 x 100 pixels, 72 dpi, filled with black.

xnviewmp browser shows a blank white thumbnail and when opened, shows a blank white square.

i can see the image when compatibility is turned on, in both, the browser and when opened.

it is not a big problem for me but it would be handy to view my psd files in browser mode.

Thanks for providing details of your tests. :-)
I'm sure this will help Pierre (the developer of XnView), and I wouldn't be surprised if this is fixed in the next release of XnView Classic and/or MP.

From PSD specifications
If maximize compatibility is unchecked then the merged/composite is not created
XnView read for 1st frame this composite image

Guys I find out the bug. You only have to remove new channels except original ones. Cheers
