"Create File Listing" - double CR/LF and spaces ...

Post by Peter2 »

Using this command (only option: filename; subfolders) I get a file "listing.txt", opened in Notepad. It looks like

Code: Select all

Medizin.jpg
Telefon.jpg
Steuer.jpg
Versicherung.jpg
But Copy&Paste to Word or Excel or UltraEdit displays empty lines and trailing spaces:

Code: Select all

Medizin.jpg

Telefon.jpg

Steuer.jpg

Versicherung.jpg

How to solve it?

I just upgraded to 1.98.8. Create file listing no longer returns a fixed width file with a CR at the end of each line.
When I open the txt file in Excel as fixed width, I'm not getting multiple rows, just a long single row.
Not how it used to work, and not what I need!

Short of editing the txt file to insert a CR, is there anything that can be done?

Is this on a fix list?

Thanks,

create file list -- missing CR

Post by dwythe »

Hello! After several years of happily using XnView to generate metadata for later use (and lots of other things), a problem has cropped up in the Create-File List output to a txt file. While I used to get output with breaks/CRs at the end of each row, that's no longer happening. Now when I open the txt file in Excel, everything strings into one long record, instead of being recognized as a fixed-width file.

It's only an issue on my workstation (others in my department are getting the proper output) so it must be a setting that has changed. Any suggestions (short of reinstalling XnView)?

(Tried to upload sample files, but .txt is not allowed)

Thanks,
Deb Wythe

Do you use the same version of XnView?

Thanks for your reply, Pierre -- yes, we all have the same version. We decided to just reinstall, and that took care of the problem--for us, anyway.
So it goes!
