I've had to reinstall W7 X64 SP1 in the last weeks. I've upgraded to 1.98.8 too. Because: when doing a batch rename I (often) use a a template like:
Albany<filename>
Paris<filename>
Tulsa<filename>
In the past, each of these entries would be found in the name template dropdown -- as I used them -- and then I could reuse them.
But now with everything reinstalled/updated -- the template rarely sticks. Sometimes the most recent one is there -- but nothing else. It seems, somehow, to happen when I switch to other programs' windows and then come back to XnV to do more processing--The name template dropwdown is empty -- when I just entered one. It also seems the more I work away from XnView the more likely the dropdown will be empty. As long as I stay (focused) in Xnview, it pretty much stays populated.
I don't see any postings re this potential "bug". and I'd think it was a bad option setting on my side except its not consistently behaving?
For now, my questions: is this a bug? And does anyone have any hints on _what_ I could be doing wrong?
thanks for any help. B

Re: Batch Rename/ Name Template dropdown not sticky?
I can't reproduce, do you have a way to reproduce?
Pierre.
Re: Batch Rename/ Name Template dropdown not sticky?
Does this happen even tough you disabled "Purge 'Most recently used files&dirs' on exit"? See http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... late+saved
In the XnView Wiki, you can improve the user guide / documentation / F1-help for XnView (classic/Windows) and for XnViewMP
Re: Batch Rename/ Name Template dropdown not sticky?
Hi, thanks for the replies.
Its very tough to predict or reproduce the issue. The one consistent effort is that as long as I don't move away from XNView -- it seems fine (with "purge" checked). Even moving away briefly to another app is often ok -- but not 100%. the longer away from xnview the higher probability that the dropdown will empty.
I have unchecked teh "purge on exit" option. After very brief F2-rename template attempts this appears to be working. (the template dropdown populates) However, these were a couple of attempts that didn't involve my aforementioned symptoms of intermittent loss of the dropdown contents -- often when focusing a different (non-Xnview) window or windows -- and then returing to XNView to try a batch rename. On Monday I'll be able to use XnV more intensively -- and will report back if the unchecked purge seems to be part of the issue/solution.
