0.61 on Linux & Windows Treat Hidden Directories Differently

Post by Unidentified F. User »

I've noticed an interesting quirk between the Linux and Windows versions of XnView MP. On Windows, hidden folders become visible in the Folders Tree Pane when the checkbox for Settings -> File List -> Show hidden files & folders is checked. However, the same is not true for Linux. Hidden directories (with a "." prefix) remain hidden, regardless of the state of the Show hidden files & folders checkbox.

So far I've tested this behavior under the follwing environments:
  • Debian (testing 64-bit using Window Maker Window Manager, stand alone install)
Debian (stable 64-bit using Mate Desktop Environment, stand alone install)
Windows XP (SP3 32-bit, in a VirtualBox VM)
FYI, this behavior appears to persist (or is a regression?) from 0.51. It turns out I had a third Debian install (a VirtualBox VM this time) that had 0.51.

...Right, probably a bug (thumbnail+name, etc...) & browser ... but not at "view as" list mode ;-)

Not exactly. When Show hidden files & folders is enabled, files/folders that are hidden are visible in the in the Browser tab's Filelist, regardless of which View As mode is used. But these same files/folders remain invisible in the Tree Pane (specifically its Folder tab) of the Browser. Whether or not Show hidden files & folders is set.

FYI, I happen to have a CIFS/Samba share mounted whose sharename is prefixed with a period. It's listed in the Tree Pane's Folder tab with no problem. I'm assuming this has to do with how the VFS manages mounted file systems. I'm also assuming the VFS would be unaffected by whatever bug prevents hidden files/folders from being visible in the Tree Pane. But then again, I could be wrong. BTW, I have both Gnome VFS and Thunar VFS installed. I'm not sure which is in operation between XNViewMP and my Window Manager.
