there's a strange behavior with clipping of JPEG-rotated images:
Take any photo which has a JPEG-rotation of +/-90 degrees, e.g. EXIF:Origin = lower-left (8), EXIF:Rotation = Rotate 270 CW. So any photo taken in portrait orientation.
MP correctly displays the thumbnail rotated as well as the image rotated.
Now use the clipping tool to highlight a selection and clip. Save as JPEG under a new name. Close image.
Bug 1:
What I would expect is that the new image either has no JPEG-rotation or if it has, it would rotate the same as the original.
What I get is a thumbnail which is rotated 90 degrees against the original photo. And, when you open it, also the clipped detail is rotated 90 degrees against the original photo.
Bug 2:
So with the clipped detail open you use the rotate +90 degrees tool to correctly orientate the detail on screen. It rotates. Save as JPEG under a new name. Close image.
Even though you rotated the image, the thumbnail of the new file is still incorrectly rotated. And when you open the new file, also the image is still oriented 90 degrees against the original photo even though we just rotated it.
Workaround:
Use the loss-less JPEG rotation to orient both thumbnail and image correctly.
Let me know if you need a sample photo to verify. You shouldn't
