I'm a little late to the party on this one, but here's my thoughts on a few of the discussed options:

O.k., let's use this (unless someone contradicts).

+1 (and I see this is the current label in 0.84, so I'd say this option is good.

As to the ones I inquired about elsewhere, and that seem to be causing quite a bit of confusion:

'Multipe view for same file'
- what it does: allows multiple tabs to be opened with the same image
- suggested replacement label: 'Allow (opening) more than one instance of a file' OR 'Allow multiple tabs for/of same file'

'Only one view per file''
- what it does: opens multiple files added at once via multiple selection and Ctrl+O shortcut* or dragging and dropping
- suggested replacement label: 'Open multiple simultaneously added files in one tab' OR 'View files in one tab when opened/added at the same time / at once / simultaneously' **

**Not sure if it's a bug or intended behavior, but opening multiple files at once by selecting them in the browser and pressing enter always opens them in one tab, and using the Ctrl-O shortcut always opens them in multiple tabs, regardless of this setting, which made me think the setting wasn't working right for a while. If a bug, it should be fixed. If not, the setting should be clarified to indicate that it applies to dragging and dropping only (and the shortcut??, since I'm pretty sure others said it works that way for them).

Edited to fix shortcut and add additional info about shortcut not working as expected with option.

Thank you, vertigo, for your thoughts on the naming of the options.

We should make a final decision on the naming so that Pierre can implement this in 0.85.

Suggestion:

"Multiple view for same file" -->
"Allow opening multiple views/tabs for same file"

"Only one view per file" -->
"Startup and drag&drop: Open only one view/tab for multiple files"

Note:
Why "view" and not "tab"? Tabs are used to switch inbetween views; some people don't use tabs.

I'm not even sure how you could have multiple views without multiple tabs, but how about instead of "tabs" or "views" saying "views/tabs?"

Yes, "views/tabs" is better. I've just changed my previous post accordingly.

Thank you for seconding, cday. In the not too far past we used the terms "Browser mode" and "View mode" in the forum. But during the years the wording here in the forum has changed to "Browser" and "Viewer" (or "View") which is easier to understand. "View" is also used in some areas (e.g. category "View"), perhaps this can be checked and changed step-by-step to "Viewer".
