On the Output tab you can set the filename and format of the new file created, together with the file format settings such as compression to be used...

If you are simply converting input file(s) from one format to another, there is no need to set any actions on the Actions tab.

The operation of XnConvert with its tabbed interface is reasonably self-explanatory if you study each tab in turn, and it is worth taking at least a quick look at all the options to avoid possible surprises! Always work on copies of files if you are not sure... :(

  1. Input tab
    1. Add files... (or Add folder...)
      Select the FilmWorks files you'd like to convert.
  2. Actions tab
    1. Clear all
      Since we're only going to change the format of the pictures, we have to make sure that all “actions” (e.g. Resize, Adjust, Sharpen) are discarded.
  3. Output tab
    1. Select a destination Folder for the converted files.
    2. Use the settings in the screenshot for the rest of the options.
      Note: I went for PNG as the output format. It's widely supported by graphics programs as well as web browsers. Unlike JPEG however, it offers lossless compression which means that the quality of your photos won't be degraded during conversion.
    3. Hit the Convert button.

Dear Sirs:
I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I input the 20 files I want to convert. I enter nothing in the actions tab; in output I just enter the folder I want to place the pics in, I enter the formant "png", i dont enter or change anything in settings, click on convert, and it shows 20 errors. I must be doing something wrong but I dont know what. Sorry to bother you but I would like to convert these pics on the isk. Please help. Many Thanks

I'm assuming that Seattle Filmworks SFW is a supported format for XnConvert, and that no plug-in is required, as implied by XnTriq's post, I think.

Could you please upload a screenshot of your Status tab showing the errors reported?

Do you have an example file you could upload, in a ZIP archive so that it can be attached, 2MiB maximum attachment size?

Which operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux) and which version of XnConvert (About tab) do you use, Norman? I'm asking because there was an issue (“create error”) some time ago that has since been fixed.

Unfortunately I haven't been successful in my attempts to reproduce the problem on Windows 7 with XnConvert v1.74, which is why I have to ask you to provide us with a screenshot of your settings in the Options tab.

Thanks for the screenshot! Please change the following settings in the Output tab:
  • Folder: E:\16358795.HI\pictures\
  • Filename: {Filename}
  • Compression level: 9
If that doesn't work, we're dealing with a bug and Pierre (the developer of XnView and XnConvert etc.) will have to look into it.

@Norman: Is E your CD/DVD drive?

@Pierre: I haven't been able to reproduce the issue reported by Norman. Could it be another build error?

PS: SFW sample

You'll need to place the file in a ZIP or RAR archive in order to upload it as an attachment, 2MiB the current maximum attachment size.
