XnView Software

Hi guys,

I already sent this PM to Pierre, in which he liked.

Please take a look at these mock-previews I made of what I think a new XnView website should look like. They took me 4 hours to make, but that's no worry, as I feel quite dedicated to XnView forum and software.

I used a visual style from a phpbb 3 and liked the lighter colors to think that it would be great enough for an official XnView website. The font used in the written texts is 'Tahoma' - good font

a website for XnView deserves the best, so clean html with possible additional CSS and minimal javascript design l'm guessing.

Very nice work. I support such visual improvement as the site is a bit "old look" now. And it's much more ergonomic than the actual site !

Good ideas for web-pages, I guess... but they remind me of how uncomfortable I am about the new icon/logo. The more I see it the less I like it, unfortunately. Some time ago I implied approval of the latest iteration of thibaud's efforts by backing off my earlier criticisms... but presented every-which-way-to-Sunday as it is in these webpage mockups, and esp. in comparison to the "legacy" icon... well, I wish there was a better alternative to the new icon.

Maybe the description could be updated too, highlighting support for new formats like APNG and WebP...

Sorry, I did not mean to hijack your thread with my complaint about the icon.

I happen to like the new icon. Sure there is a bit of 'chicken' but I still much prefer it over the current legacy 'scratchy' looking icon

"XNview legacy" isn't discontinued yet

Some ideas:

- Keep it clean & simple
- Javascript optional, stay usable without
- For possible videos, use HTML5 + free codecs only (not Flash)

I will try to avoid any discussions about the logo in this thread

The proposal of website is nice, clean and simple, spontanously I like it. I think the grey and strong orange fit nicely toghether.

The only remark is that I would leave the byline "software by Pierre-e Gougelet" out. Eventhough Pierre is de facto the creator, I consider that kind of information to be less necessary. It should be under a "About XnView"-tab (not "About Pierre"). Alternatively it could be located on the front page included in the short text row stating "XnView is a free software to view, organize ... ... ... created by Pierre-e Gougelet".

My main argument for this is that the majority of visitors will probably only be interested in the software, and its features. They are probably not so much interested in secondary information, like who created the software, why and when it was made, what toolkits were used or how many rows of code were used and so on. All that is for a "About XnView"-section, for the ones who wants to know more.

I hope that I'm clear that I don't want to take any credit from Pierre, but to focus on what information the average visitor will want to see.

I agree with Troken. At first sight, only clear information about the softwares must be visible.

I agree. And among the features, the new popular stuff like WebP should be mentioned first.

Interesting mockup and I like what I see but like others have pointed out XnView Classic isn't dead yet, XnView MP is a long way off having all the functions of Classic for a start.
