Default save type?

When opening say, a .png or a .bmp file, doing Save As always seems to default to the same file type as the image's current type. Is there a way to make this default to .png or .jpg?

Wouldn't retaining the last file type saved be a simpler solution than adding another option?

I agree. Old XnView would remember the last file format you saved at and used that as a default when saving, which I personally enjoyed.
