XnViewMP 0.78 weird zoom look

Post by Jou »

Very simple: Open pic, zoom to, for example 283%, be surprised. It happens at all zoom, but 283% (or more) shows it very nicely.

It happens here and bugged me a lot. Tried to go back to 0.76.1 but it gives a QT error. You can get a better look in 0.78 disabling high-quality zoom in options -> view, but while it looks better, it's blocky. I hope there's a fix soon. I wonder why some people don't get it, or it would have been reported much earlier.

Getting the same issue here... very frustrating. Is there a place to download older versions?

This is happening to me on Windows 8.1 x64 with XnViewMP 0.78 x64. This only happens when using the "High zoom quality" option "Zoom-in" (or "Zoom-out AND Zoom-in"). It seems like a weird interlacing kind of error.

EDIT: Found old versions here: http://download.xnview.com/old_versions/
I was able to downgrade to version 0.76 and confirm that the issue is no longer happening.

Just noticed the problem for me, too.
Important note: It does only appear on zoom levels over 100%.

Additionally, on a 4K monitor, dragging huge >4K photo is very stuttering on my Xeon Processor and Titan X.
Poor performance when zooming and dragging...
This is without zooming at all.

I'll add a "me too". With one possibly useful addition: I'm good at forgetting ordering, but I'm pretty sure this happened:

(a) XnViewMP 0.78 installed on Mac OS X el capitan. I'm 95% sure I used it for a while and it was fine.
(b) New totally clean OS install (moved to SSD, thought I might as well start over to get rid of cruft).
(c) Now XnViewMP has this zoom broken / stuttering / interlaced lines problem.

So if I do have the above right, the only thing I can think is that maybe I had some library installed then that I don't have installed now (I had a lot of *nix-y packages installed via homebrew package manager and other random ways).

I wonder if any of the people with this problem have it on Linux. If I'm right, probably not. When I'm more motivated I'll see if I can run dtrace or something to see if it's trying to open some shared library that doesn't exist.

I forgot mac has an ldd equivalent, so tried that. My novice reading is that the /System paths are unlikely to be a problem since Apple doesn't even allow root to change stuff in those by default any more. Based on my reading of https://developer.apple.com/library/mac ... yld.1.html the @ paths are guaranteed to be internal to the .app package. I'm not sure about the ones without paths (at the end).

Anyone know which if any of the below libraries are used for the image scaling?

Code: Select all

Don't know anything about MAC-Computers but when I go back to the previous version, I have good quality again. So on Windows, it's not a library.

It looks like 0.78 was a massive upgrade from QT4 to QT5. So experiences with previous versions might not be as useful as you think. But, in any case, I think this problem is likely beyond fixing by hackish laymen. :?

Yeah, the resizer is broken...

I've asked in the General support section about it, http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=32740 , no replies as of yet and I don't see it in the bug tracker.

The resizer looks like it does bilinear resampling. Not that great compared to bicubic or other high quality resizers.

No, it looks more like it's interlaced resizing with swapped field order.

This problem and variations of it have been around for a longer while. This is supposed to be fixed.

@Jou, JMM72, HBK008, BloodySword, RGhost: Could you please try with the latest XnView MP version (0.84) and confirm the bug fix?
