How about adding the "rebuild thumbnails" option in the browser right click menu? I find that I have to frequently use this feature to update thumbnails for changed files since they don't rebuild automatically. Thanks.

I think it's a terrible idea. =\
Assigning a shortcut would be a better solution than polluting the menu with a rarely used option (even if a handful of people use it regularly), since we can't customize menus.

having a shortcut would be nice, too. but having it conveniently right clickable in the right click menu of the browser makes a lot of sense.

I agree with foxyshadis.
BTW we have a shortcut already - Ctrl+R.
If you want to use a mouse, perhaps a toolbar button would be better - it would be customizable.

XnView should update the embedded thumbnail whenever the image's contents have changed. There are many requests regarding updating thumbnails after image manipulation posed here in the forum, already.
Once an update with every image manipulation (and saving) is done, a "Refresh thumbnail" will be needed in few cases, only.

Yes, right. My statements "XnView should update" means future versions. The autoupdate should be high up in the "ToDo" list.

It looks it works only if cache is disabled.
