SE RMB GPF OMG

Post by XnTriq »

Upon right-clicking an image file the new Shell Extension crashes my file managers.
This occurs with both Ontrack PowerDesk Pro v5.0 and Explorer under Windows 2000 SP4. :?

:) Hello !

• Maybe is it a bit off topic, but here the ShellExt has gone from my local menu after I upgraded
to the last version coming with the 1.94 ß1 ! :(

• But still, it's stated as "Active" when checking with ShellExView, and worked alright in all previous versions…
- Attempting to force the loading with the <register.bat> is no-go :  I get a CMD error message telling that the file
is not executable (!) that indeed is wrong.
- I rummaged a bit in the registry, all keys are there, and seem correct :

ImageImage

• I translated roughly on that image, my ShellExView is (strangely :P) in French…

No more XnViewSheelEx in your menu? For all images?

Vanished

:) Hello !

• Right, totally vanished, no matter which image file type I right-click on.
- It's missing from TC, Win Explorer and any other file manager…

• I've disabled >> Re_enabled it from “ShellExView”, unsuccessfully…

:?: Any clue ?

Windows Explorer crashes when I try to go to the Options... sub-menu of the shell extension.

Solved !

Post by Clo »

 Pierre

:) Hello !

• Finally, the solution is on the screen shot above :  The file size is smaller by 1,096 bytes, comparing with the XnTriq's one !
- I downloaded the archive again an changed the DLL, it works now !
- It's odd, since I didn't get any error message for a “damaged¦invalid” file. :?

Good detective work, Clo!
  1. 5.909.066 bytes (18/Jun/2008 08:30)
  2. 5.877.917 bytes (19/Jun/2008 12:03)
XnView-beta1.zip #2 doesn't include AddOn\Pocket.xnp.

How many times do I need to repeat myself before you destroy this DLL once and for all? Who cares about PDA's anyway?

I can't reproduce on 2K SP4. Could you try with clean settings?

  • I removed xnview.ini.
  • I threw out all references to XnView in the registry (even those for XnViewQT).
  • I deleted all files in %AppData%\XnView\.
  • I rebooted my machine.
PowerDesk still crashes right away. Windows Explorer crashes as soon as I click on one of the items (Convert..., Copy to Clipboard, Options..., etc.).

Yes, I never get to see the context menu in PowerDesk.

Thanks for your efforts, Pierre!
Don't waste your time on this one (as long as we don't get similar reports from other users). I'll try to remove all 3rd-party shell extensions one by one in the coming days, and once I've found out if the problem persists or not I'll get back to you.
