Hi,
I found a somewhat annoying "feature" (bug?) in XnView, when creating descriptions, the filenames are stored between quotation marks into the descript.ion file. Some catalogizer apps are however cannot read the comments from this nonstandard description file format.
If someone creates comments in other apps, like totalcmd or older versions of acdsee, they just simply store the filename then the comment followed by a space.
My typical filenames are like IMG_5622.JPG, so no spaces or other special characters present. That's why I don't understand why XnV stores them like if they were special filenames, like "image of my digital cam 5622". TotalCmd only surrounds these filenames with " " if they needs special handling. Can XnView behave similar? (or an option in preferences?)

Works in TC…

Hello !
• It's something I noticed and reported some years ago, also to the author of Total Commander
who added a support for the useless quotes when there is no space in the name…
- Thus, TC supports the XnView comments. It might not be that complicated, it was done very quickly…
- But you're right, this isn't normal, and an option is desirable for XvView comments read by some apps. else than TC…
Kind regards,
Claude
