Time-out on forum pages?

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

- Is there some kind of time-out set for the forum ?
- Several times, I got a message :
«Warning ! Expiry of the delay for that page» or so, it's in French for me.
Then, the forum has gone, and the messages I prepared have been lost; it's very irritating…
- That doesn't occur in other fora.

Thank you to ckeck.

Probably a build up in traffic with people wanting the new XnView 1.80 Final :)
You should be happy, XnView is so popular it'll crash the server soon... lol.

I sometimes encounter problems when searching and then navigating back to previous pages in the browser. But never had an expired page like you experience, now.

Hello Clo,

this is likely due to the increased download of the new release. Normally we have something like 3-4 GB/day traffic, today the traffic mark hit the 90 GB/day mark! I also noticed a lag sometimes in the forum and have relaxed the server setting to allow more connections to be served (in fact I have doubled to number of allowed connections).

Hope that helps,
Soeren

:) Hello !
- That didn't happen again till now. I prepare generally the long phpBB messages “off-line” (I've an editor I patched specially for this), but the tests for 1.80 RCx needed too many postings…
• Thank you for the info.

It comes back…

Post by Clo »

 Soeren

:) Hello !
- The message comes back now continually when using the "Search" of the board.
- At the moment, there are four users connected, and I don't guess there is a huge traffic at downloads… Steps to follow :

• Search for anything (usual, to get a result page)
• Go to watch any thread from the result page,
• When you try to come back to the result page, in order to open another thread, the message is there, and the search result is lost… :|
- This occurs for two days…

Hi Clo,

I doubt this occurs for two days. The "go back" functionality of browser has never worked really on phpbb afaik. This seems to be a problem on how the form is composed, I don't know details but this always annoys me too...

Only here, only Search !

Post by Clo »

Hi again!

- That occurs for two days to the Search Result only really, like said above… Or else, the Previous / Next page buttons of the browser work quite fine here and in other phpBB fora. But - even for a Search result page - I never saw that awful message, for instance @ Total Commander forum with the same handling…

- The mystery darkens… :?

I think the Search of phpBB is not very good for medium and larger boards. E.g. when searching for "xnview" or "1.80" in this forum it says "No search results". When using "Back" from the search results page, I often get "Page not found". This is not a new problem but has been around for several weeks.

Back to Search result is impossible

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

• Fifteen months later, there is still the same exasperating issue :
It's impossible to go back to the Search result-page to watch another thread :(

- I'm bound to remake the same search as so many times as the result-page contains threads.

- I assume again that this occurs only on THIS forum.

- I use intensively i.e. the Total Commander fora, and I can go back to the result-page without any problem…

- Here, still the awful «Warning ! Expiry of the delay for that page»
I never saw it elsewhere.
- Now, there is a new server, I guess, and the traffic is reasonable and -it seems- supported OK.
- So, I think there is a hitch somewhere in the codes… for ages ! :P

:) Hello Chris !

“…And by a single strike of her magic wand, the Fairy made a cute Prince from the ugly toad !…”

• Please, no more tales, I'm getting too old ;)
- There are currently only 21 users online, and that occurs even when I'm the only !
- That never works !

This problem has nothing to do with traffic and server load. It's a problem of the webpage for search results generated by phpBB. Perhaps just a missing meta tag "expires" or something like that. It's definetely not just a problem of the XnView board, other boards have this problem, too, e.g. http://www.bessere-bilder.de/forum . And from what I have heard it only can be seen with MS Internet Explorer.

Sören or I will look into this - let's see whether we can find the problem.
