embedded thumbnails of CR2 RAW files not rotated in browser
Hi Pierre,
I'm not sure, there are so many threads about thumbnails... I'm not sure if this has been reported:
The embedded thumbnails of my CR2 files are not rotated in the browser according to the exif value (the preview is rotated correctly).
Thanks!

Re: thumbnails of CR2 RAW files not rotated via exif in brow
Do you have enabled option/Read/Rotate EXIF?imforumman wrote:Hi Pierre,

Of course, all other thumbnails are rotated according to their exif values, only the thumbnail which is integrated in the raw/cr2 file ins not rotated accordingly.xnview wrote: Do you have enabled option/Read/Rotate EXIF?

confirmed
I just confirmed this by taking a picture in RAW+JPG mode and viewing the directory they were placed in:
the cr2 file:
- displays the integrated thumbnail (NOT rotated)
- the EXIF icon
- the thumbnail icon
the jpg file:
- displays the integrated tumbnail correctly rotated
- the EXIF icon
- the rotated icon
- the thumbnail icon
If you want, I can send you the files and a screenshot via mail. Note: the exif-data displayed in the properties of the cr2 file do NOT include the orientation field, so it may be that the dcraw lib you are using (or similar) is not extracting the complete exif data and thus xnview can't know about having to rotate it. (Other programs are able to extract the orientation information, so it is also contained in the cr2 file)
(This is the last stable version, not 1.9alpha, I have not tested that one, but unless large parts have been rewritten I'm thinking there is going to be no difference)

So, what is this now? Search the forum before contacting the author? Using the email address in the users profile seems like a realistic thing to do. Ohterwise, this needs be changed.Olivier_G wrote:Please, see how to contact the Author.
Pierre: did you get the files I sent via sendthisfile.com to your wanadoo.fr address?
Except that you used what is indicated near 'MSN Messenger' and lots of people keep an email for Messenger without using it for Mail (be it for spam or whatever reason).imforumman wrote:So, what is this now? I was trying to help, but obviously you don't need any, right?
This being said, Pierre: maybe you could remove the MSN Messenger address from your profile and add directly the XnView address in your Avatar to avoid that kind of situation...

Yeah, you're so right: I saw an email address, selected it, ctrl-c, ctrl-v and all thought all was good. I should have looked. I should know better. And, yes, I shouldn't have gotten on your case for helping. It just seemed like another one of those moderator "search the forum before you post" comments, even though it wasn't. I'm sorry.Olivier_G wrote:Except that you used what is indicated near 'MSN Messenger' and lots of people keep an email for Messenger without using it for Mail (be it for spam or whatever reason).

That being said, I do hate it when people have email address they don't check (anymore). I have my email software check six imap accounts and at least 10 others are redirected to one of them. If I don't want to use an email address, I delete it, giving anybody an error who sends mail to that address an error. And for spam: an adaptive spam filter catches 98.5% of the spam i recieve and ive gotten two false positives in 3 years.
