Re: Companion vs Sidecar
Sidecar files, also known as buddy files or connected files, are computer files that store data (often metadata) which is not supported by the format of a source file. (wikipedia) It is applicable to XMP, pp3, and whatever file type that contains data relative to the main file (processing parameters...

Information: new G'MIC 8bf plugin
For those who don't know it, G'MIC is a very powerful image processing script language and set of filters developed by David Tschumperlé (see https://gmic.eu/) and many contributors. It can be used as command line and plugins were developed for GIMP, KRITA and other photo software. Now, a 8bf interf...

Re: Read metadata from MP4 files
Regretfully, I understand that video and video management is not in the priority list surely due to lack of time from the developper. No thumbnail, no metadata though exiftool can read MP4 metadata, no renaming like photo, no inclusion of video in slideshow...
I am getting desparate about that.

Re: EXIF Tool
The swiss knife for metadata management is https://exiftool.org/. there is also a GUI named exiftoolGui but it only uses a few possibilities of the CLI. A lot of apps are based upon it.
You can also try https://www.exiv2.org/
For help, I think you can find dedicated forums.

Re: My dream software for managing video files?
I can read .mxf metadata with last version of exiftool. So perhaps you can modify those metadata. Adding internal metadata is more tricky as you can break your file due to modification of sections offsets or incompatibility with standard. The way to add metadata could be to use XMP sidecar? but I fe...

Re: TIFF formats
You will find here - TIFF 8, 16, 16 float ,32 float uncompressed and compressed with zip. They include an ICC V2 equivalent to sRGB. I verified all these TIFF can be read by GIMP2.10 - ICC V2 and V4 from Elle Stone (https://ninedegreesbelow.com/) I checked if XnviewMP can read all the TIFF: - 8bits,...

Re: Regular expressions in thumbnail labels
I second the request from flatfield. And Now with the smartphones and the new cameras, we can take a lot of video. these video have to be managed in the SAME way as photos. I use the {EXIF:Date Taken [ymd_HMS]} template in the batch rename to be able to easily sort all my photos coming either from 2...

video media metadata
I appreciate to be able to view video in XnviewMP. However, for ease of archiving, I lack the "media time created" for video (mov, mp4,avi). I can display it with exiftool For video, I only see a file creation/modification date that is not useful for media management. So, I have two questions: - is ...
