I use both Latin and Japanese/Cyrillic. If I use just Japanese it looks like that:

My local settings are Bulgarian (cyrillic) and I heve problems with unicode in EXIF Info. IPTC and XMP are OK.

In Info (EXIF, IPTC, XMP) all japanese characters are replaced with question marks.

Jp locale can read euro chars fine

Not if you use Cyrillic.
