Re: Close/Exit button in Viewer

@targlebargle, the original function on the r-c menu in full screen view did just that (close xnview) and I raised the issue that it was a little unsuspecting to have 'exit program' on the viewer menu. To help solve the issue, what we could use is a Quit shortcut, that can work at any place, browser...

Edit IPTC/XMP tool - keywords

Small thing to report but it's something that could be improved. In the Edit IPTC/XMP tool, Keywords tab, why is there need for checkbox "Use parent keywords"? At present usage is: To add a parent keyword to the list this box must be checked, and then child keywords can't be added. To add child keyw...

Re: Remember categories' selection between ...

Somewhere in settings is a checkbox "Close view opens file in browser" - this must override the last filter.

Re: Quickly modify IPTC/XMP metadata

+1 for this idea, to make editing metadata possible/easier.

1. in the Info panel, click twice to edit
2. In details view - click twice or hot-key

Re: Auto-Import Category Tags only from Files in Library

I just remembered, there is one other work around! Put the temporary files in a special location. In Settings > Metadata, uncheck the "Import XMP subject or IPTC keyword to DB Categories" box In Settings > Catalog, click on Add folder and find the location of these pictures After that, check the box...

Re: Auto-Import Category Tags only from Files in Library

I mentioned this particular problem 8 years ago!! see here > Re: Here comes the Catalog Every time I come across the Exclude list in Settings > Catalogue I imagine I can select a dir and keep the files in it from interfering with the database (meaning keywords) ... but I hear that this only excludes...

Re: Retouch Tool

I agree, the Draw dialogue needs a few more basic tools to help us out with images that have mistakes or things showing that shouldn't, such as car no. plate, someone's face, some accidental nudity :x 1. clone tool - to copy native colour/texture from the image to another spot. 2. blur tool - draw a...

+1 for an option to turn off this tooltip. It's unnecessary for veteran users.

Re: Copy XMP keywords to other files

Something aint working right with the exiftool restore. If I compare a file from reduced set with a file with restored categories, they look identical (at least with the exiftool output)... but maybe Xnview sees something different, that the external process did to the xmp data. When I import these ...

Re: Copy XMP keywords to other files

Pretty good tutorial that, thanks for the pointer. So here's what I came up with.. #!/bin/bash #script to save xmp keywords from files and restore them to files of same name elsewhere. Dir tree needs to be identical except for top parent which is replaced by perl command in the created file, keywds....

Re: Copy IPTC data to other files

HI, I'm not too fluent with python, unfortunately... neither French! The commands I use with exiftool call -subject -hierarchicalsubject Actually for option 1. above, no need for xargs as I am starting with a list, so I would use.. while read line; do find . -name "$line" -exec exiftool -m -overwrit...

Copy XMP keywords to other files

Hi there, I am back after quite a few years of silence! Trying to sort out my database just now and need to do some tricky tasks.... Here's the problem: I have a set of original pictures, around 25,000, organized in dozens of folders. Then I have reduced size copies of these, same file names, same f...

Re: MP- Add a way to Clear all blank categories-db managemen

Thumbs up if metadata of files in "excluded folders" is not added to the db, or their keywords to the category list one may have to browse to folders with images that could be full of unneeded metadata (keywords) eg saved from the internet, and those folders could be excluded and the files not affec...

Re: Importing function for mass categorization

Hi, my quick thoughts.. 1. renaming your actual files as to indicate what categories they belong to would seem time consuming and tedious to me- you really do that? eg, even for 300 pics per folder? 2. it's MUCH faster and more efficient just to name your files generally, ie, "plants_1503##", and th...
