The specific issue of writing geolocation data in the metadata of a jxl file has been solved in 1.9. Thanks.
Remains the issue of removing metadata using "clean" in the browser mode. It works for jpg files but does not work for jxl, png and tif files (and may be some other formats I did not test)

Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
Quite strange.
About 'clean metadata', I have just noticed that there is 2 locations for that, in the browser and in the viewer. The browser one is not available for TIF, PNG and JXL, but available for JPG, where cleaning is done losslessly. The viewer one is available for all these formats ...

Re: 1.8.8 Cannot write GPS coordinates to JPEG XL
I made some additional tests. There is a strange interaction between format and metadata (including GPS data but not limited to them)
1) I initially though that there was a specific issue with JXL files for "clean metadada" which is not available (greyed) for such files, but I have just noticed ...

Re: Window becomes small when switching between 1080p and 4k monitors
Same issue for me (on windows 10) when switching between the screen of the laptop (HD, 125%) and a big TV screen (UHD, 100%). Not only the windows becomes tiny but once the whole windows has been re-established to the full screen, the relative sizes of the various panes of the browser (tree pane ...

Re: 1.8.8: some JXLs shown darker than they are?
The issue comes from the ICC profile:
1) convert the jxl into png and/or jpg using djxl
2) compare the 2 or 3 files with XnView; They look very similar, but their looks depend on whether the color management (use ICC profile) is activated or not:- if not, all look dark, if yes, all look pale

Stange behaviour of crop for hand-written values starting by 1 in fix-ratio mode
1.8.7 on windows 10
Hello,
A strange behaviour occurs when cropping in the "fix-ratio" mode (it does not occur in the free mode), with written values starting by 1, which compel the crop origin to be shifted leftward (if changing the width) or upwards (if changing the height)
To reproduce:

XnviewMP 1.8.6 on Windows 10

Re: JPEG XL: --brotli_effort Option
Sorry, I don't understand the point: the range of brotli_effort is 0 .. 11. When non specified, brotli_effort takes the default value 9, which is an already high value, so there is no so much room for better compression (at the price of a slower process)

Re: saving in this format will discard any existing metadata!
I already transcoded all my jpg files into jxl files. There are two ways to do it:
1) decode the jpg files and re-coded them into jxl files with a comparable quality setting. This can be done using Xnview or cjxl.exe (under windows, downloadable from github/jxl, and there are also version for linus ...

Re: 1.8.6 - When saving as JPEG XL (JXL), the compression result is incorrect
Hello,
Also on windows 10. I made some tests with a 11 Mb PNG file, converted into jxl q=90 with effort 7 vs 9. The results obtained by Xnvivew are exactly the same (same weight and same CRC as the results obtained with cjxl.exe v0.11.1 (freely downloadable from github/jxl). In this example, the ...

Re: 1.8.6 jepgli
I finally found that I can read jpeli XYB files correctly by activating "use ICC profile for monitor" in Settings/General/color management
(by default I let this tick box unchecked, as it is specified that this leads to some slow down)

1.8.6 jepgli
Hi,
The new version 1.8.6 works fine for generating jpegli files, including with XYB color coding (the files are exactly the same as those generated by cjpegli.exe), but those coded in XYB are displayed with a dramatic shif in color, i.e. 1.8.6 is able to correctly generate these files but not to ...
