can you or anyone tell me what this embedded means? How do I change it? Is there a site where I can learn more about this topic?

When I view in thumbnail option, some of my pics have a black or dark blue frame on left and right sides and sometimes a thinner frame top and bottom. I know this has something to do with the size. Is there a way to make these disappear no matter which size I select?

would you suggest that I convert ALL my .jpg to .jpg lossless? Or is it a personal preference.
