This only happens in normal slideshows. Using a dozen of pictures and videos, the still pictures are OK but the videos only shows a uniform screen of my preferred background color and then, after the delay, goes to the next picture.

Exact. I see the file not updated in real-time after rearranging the pictures. This is missing as well when a file is added or deleted.
Also, if a file is deleted and the focus is set to another folder the hidden .XnViewSort file keeps record of the (now missing) file for the next visit.

Yes, I used to reduce to 1080 in height whatever the width (sufficient for HDTV and most laptops). It's similar to what we can do with XN Convert.
