I've just noticed the same applies to colour labels. The browser shows assigned colour labels for folders, but there is nowhere for them to be stored in the database and they are not retained.
This is all rather disappointing, as the ability to rate, label and categorise folders as well as images ...

Steps to reproduce:
1) Find some images with the Category Filter, using any criteria, or with the search function.
2) Select an image from the search results and open it in the view mode with Tools->Open or Ctrl-O

Interface appears to allow rating of folders
XnView MP allows folders to be rated, even though it cannot store those ratings in the database.
Personally I would love to be able to rate folders as well as images, but at the very least I think that if they cannot be rated then the program should not falsely appear to support it.

I think a really useful feature would be built-in reverse image searching, so that you could initiate a search using Google's search-by-image, TinEye and other similar reverse image search services, right from within XnView's interface. It wouldn't necessarily need to display results in the program ...
