I agree... being able to filter on an "accept/reject" label would be critical. I do agree that you can somewhat do "picks" (accepted, pending, rejected, none) using color labels, but there are a few issues with that. For one, it means you have fewer color labels to use for any other purpose. And ...

Certainly. Here are some images for which metadata was saved in Digikam. I saved "pick" metadata, as well as rating and color metadata. (You'll notice that the rating info loads correctly in XnView! And the keyboard shortcut is even the same.)

No, it's different from a Tag. A Tag is a way of temporarily marking pictures so that you can do something with an entire set of selected photos. It doesn't *have* to be temporary (you can set the file list never to be cleared), but it seems to be designed with this sort of use in mind. This is ...
