I have a wide screen, so I'm using layout 7, with the preview on the right.

As I go through the thumbnails, I'd like to do a quick tagging, then eventually apply the correct action/rate/delete to these images.

I think that I found what's the sequence for crashing:

1. I have a directory with images and the xmps from other/older dams.
2. When XV reads them, it creates a whole bunch of category from the older xmps (which I don't want).
3. I switch to the category tab and delete all the categories except for ...

and I always use the filter: Images to not show the XMPs.

Yes I only selected the file images with the click-shift-click. BUT, I also had the filter image files only that eliminated the XMPs.

So ... XnView can't yet quick search IPTC but only XMP. To save data into XMP using Ctrl+I edits the original, does not add to sidecar and creates an additional (backup) file.

Can I write a keyword tag in a manner that does not create a backup copy but ...
