Re: Groundhog day
The api-ms*.dll should be present on Win 7 x64, which dll are missing? No, they aren't, that's exactly my point. These are relatively recent VC runtime libraries and they may be available if someone has explicitly installed them system-wide. I haven't. This is the list of the needed DLLs: api-ms-wi...

Re: Groundhog day
The zip is fine. The problem is simply that the developer includes *some* MS runtime DLLs in the zip but not all that are required. As I have no system-wide version of the required files xnviewmp.exe simply refuses to start. If I copy the missing files (mostly a bunch of api-ms*.dll files) into the ...

A new version and once again it will not install. Windows 7-64, trying to install the 32-bit version zip version. After unzipping the error I get is once again "The application was unable to start correctly. (0xc000007b)". This time round it turns out that *some* of the required MS runtime DLLs are ...

XnView MP 0.92 32-bit install issue
I downloaded the recent Windows 32-bit .92 version of XnView MP (after abstaining from .91 because XnView MP has a history of bungled updates)... and it doesn't work. It doesn't even start: the xnviewmp.exe instead complains about a missing vcruntime140.dll. Not good. But OK, so I google and it seem...

Re: How to organize/use? :)
Since one computer is a Mac and the other is running Linux, the file paths would not be similar unless I recreate and mount to /Volumes/share/some/path on Linux ... That was why I mentioned symlinks. Before I moved all image files to a network share it was possible for me to create symlinks in such...

Re: How to organize/use? :)
With default settings, it seems all tagging etc. are stored in the XnView.db in .config/xnviewmp? To be able to work with the same photos from two different computers (mac laptop+Linux desktop), I should change settings to store tagging etc. in XMP? Or do I need some sync'ing of that database? (I a...

Re: Deleting categories
For 0.82 can you please consider either ignoring the Del key if the Categories tab has the focus or (in my view better) make it delete the current category? The current way to delete all selected images is not at all intuitive.

Re: Better quality control?
Perhaps we should reintroduce beta testing phases? As it stands right now, the early adopters of a new version (of whom I was one) are effectively the beta testers. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, it just means that people will have to decide at which point they actually install a new v...

Re: Better quality control?
No hard feelings. I simply think that a little more effort in quality control BEFORE releasing a new version might help.xnview wrote:Sorry about that, but i do my best to fix all bugs...jonha4711 wrote: Anyway, I've run into so many quirks during the last weeks of extensive testing that I am now taking a back seat.

Re: Better quality control?
Why did you go back?? As I wrote: because I do not trust XnViewMP. An application that potentially destroys my data is not something I fancy. Do you have such problem????? I do. I've worked a lot with categories in the last weeks and it took me a long time to get used to the bug (that is apparently...

Better quality control?
The title says it all. I seriously think that XnViewMP (I can't talk about Classic as I've never used it) needs a better approach to quality control. As it stands now I will refrain from any further update (I just updated to .80 but will go back to .79) until I am reasonable sure there are no signif...

Re: Exported categories don't show up in "Edit IPTC/XMP..."
is it possible to have the database? Almost 300mb for nearl y 30,000 images. So not really practical. Anyway, the problem is not that my database has somehow got funky. The problem is that I can't reliably restore categories once I have to recreate the database -- and there will other cases and oth...

Re: categories
Do the issues only affect hierarchical keywords? I guess the issues themselves are hard to attribute to specific circumstances, i.e., hard to reproduce and harder to avoid? I have concentrated my tests on hierarchical keywords because practically all my images have (or will have) multiple, hierarch...

Re: categories
There's an option to export categories as XMP/IPTC keywords in the files, and according to my experimentation, this works (reliably). Is this feature more recent than the previous posts? I have tested this feature (XMP not IPTC because the former supports hierarchical categories) quite extensively ...
