Re: Reading Keywords from IPTC merging keywords
Quick update - it *seems* to be working again now (famous last words).... I noticed that sometimes deleted tags were still appearing in the photos etc so I did so manual editing of the XnView.db file with sqlite3 from the command line to purge out missing files and clean up some duplicates, and, so ...

Reading Keywords from IPTC merging keywords
I have some Python scripts which add IPTC Keywords to some of my photo files. When I open XNViewMP it normally picks up these keywords and associates the relevant categories with that photo (I can force this via View -> Update catalog from files). This has been working fine with no problems until ...

Sure. Attached is one of the only ones small enough for this forum to let me attach it; let me know how to send you bigger ones if you need them. Thanks

Categories greyed out and no IPTC data
Using XnViewMP 0.93.1 (64 bit) on my Macbook, I've just added some new photos and when I try to categorise them, all the categories are greyed out, when a photo is selected (see attached screen shot). (If I select an old, already tagged photo, it becomes active).
I have never seen this before, but ...

Duplication of paths and images in the DB
When selecting photos using the Category filter, I noticed some photos appear a number of times.
On exploring the XnView.db file with sqlite3, I noticed that there seems to be mass duplication of paths; specifically entries that start '@' which appear to be my top-level photos directory, and also ...

Re: How to keep categories in sync with IPTC
You would like when you add a keywords in IPTC view, the changes is made in database too, right?
Sort of. At the moment when I add a photo to a category, XNViewMP is automatically adding the IPTC and updating the database (which is great).

Re: How to keep categories in sync with IPTC
Yeah, I have the "modify" option set (I need this anyway so that rsync can identify which photos to sync), but XN is still not picking up the change.
I put a feature request in: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=33567

Watch folders
It would be great if XnViewMP would watch folders for changes - including files being updated - so it can re-read the IPTC information and update the internal DB if the file is up dated.

Re: How to keep categories in sync with IPTC
Thanks for the quick reply!
How are you removing them, Make sure you have options set under:
-Options>> Metadata>> Read/Write to the db.
Yep, I've got that set. I think maybe I was being impatient in this element, because if I unset a category (either by selecting the photo and clicking "remove ...

How to keep categories in sync with IPTC
Apologies if this is a really basic question, but I'm new to XnViewMP (and IPTC).
What I want to be able to do is to 'tag' photos in some way with custom tags (like 'holiday', 'family', 'mum' etc), maybe multiple tags per picture, and have those stored in the file data so that I can then easily ...
