Re: Filter by EXIF tags
FastPhotoTagger (freeware .jar app) can work on any tag managed by ExifTool... even in it's DataBase, and queries can be built with "And" and "OR" for each tagbut I don't recall any app that uses separate matching option at condition level
But it's not as convenient as Xnview

Re: Folder ratings disappear
Are you working or doing your tests only in C:\Users\TNTol\OneDrive\ ?
Did you try anywhere else ?
Perhaps this folder is a case of unexpected behavior ?

Re: Creating a new catalog
"Settings, Catalog, Import folders" should work...
Be sure that import options are enabled in Settings Metadata.
But sometimes, old entries can stay in the table shown in Settings, Catalog and perhaps can block importation ?

Re: Keywords and categories - when to use what
If you want to take advantage of the "catalog filter" feature, it's easier to use categories. Once you've chosen your export options (iptc or xmp in Settings>metadata), there's no reason to change them or make mistakes; your keywords will be automatically handled correctly and quickly in the (JPG ...

Re: Date change when photo was taken before 1970
In "Change timestamp" screen, choose the dates to update :
- The three exif dates can accept any date like 1890-01-29
- Let File created and file modified dates unchanged (unmark these checkboxes)
When displaying or sorting photos, use an exif date instead of file system dates. Most of fields that ...

Re: Keywords and categories - when to use what
Be careful not to confuse the XnViewMP "Categories" tool for managing keywords, and the "Iptc category" metadata that no one uses anymore.

Re: Category Tab display
If you have few custom settings, you can rename your xnview.ini file to xnviewini.old before starting XnViewMP.
A new xnview.ini will be created... and perhaps the problem will be solved
Otherwise, maybe a category name contains many blank characters or special characters that add a line break ?

Re: Edit EXIF?
XnViewMP does not provide the ability to change exif data, except timestamp, gps data, orientation (and some "XP" fields used years ago)
With XnViewMP, sometimes i duplicate photo1 that has good exif data
Then I paste the graphic content of photo2 that had lost it's exif data
And I save as : photo2 ...

Re: exiftool.exe runs from AppData folder
I suppose that the Exiftool version that is in use is an auto-extract exe version (extract some files in a temporary folder) .
Since some weeks (months?), new versions of Exiftool are different : a small exiftool.exe and a folder (exiftool_files) for all needed files.
