Firstly an admission of an error. I said above that the Update Preview icon appeared to change size, Actually, looking at it the following morning it was clear that what I was seeing was the little border that normally appears around icons when they are selected.
As suggested, I have tried a folder ...

Re: Problem with Preview pane in Ver 1.79
I've just discovered something rather curious. I was experimenting and decided to try the Update Preview icon, an icon that I've never really noticed before. Anyway it seems to toggle on and off whether I can step through the files in the After view.
Another curious thing. Toggling this icon makes ...

Re: Problem with Preview pane in Ver 1.79
I'll try my best to illustrate the particular problem of not being able to scan through the edited files. The example I have chosen is a folder of jpegs of 144 scanned pages of an old paperback that I am converting to a pdf file so that I can get rid of it.
Edit: I forgot that attachments appear in ...

Problem with Preview pane in Ver 1.79
I have just updated to XnConvert Ver 1.79 from Ver 1.77. Because it was easier to see the results the following applies to batch cropping of a number of files in a folder.
With Ver 1.77, if I changed one of the cropping values the change immediately appeared in the Preview pane. Furthermore, I ...

Moving through files in the Preview pane
I have XnConvert Ver. 1.77 Win x64 running under Win 10.
Is it possible move quickly from one file to another file in the Preview pane? The only way I can see to do this is to move sequentially by keeping on clicking the right or left file arrows.

Re: A puzzling result when cropping
Indeed it is, although it must hold some sort of record for the most discreet button ever! Hovering over it told me that it was called "Apply actions".
Many thanks for the solution.

A puzzling result when cropping
I have XnConvert ver 1.75 running under Win 10.
It's probably easier for me if I describe a particular series of actions.
I have a number of jpeg files and I wish to crop each one by different amounts, which means processing them one at a time.

Re: Moving through photos on an Android phone
Perhaps if I explain in detail the problem it might clarify things.
I plug the phone into a USB on my PC and go through the procedure on the phone for allowing transfer of photos by PTP.

Moving through photos in a folder
I have Ver 2.34 running under Win 10 Home.
I run through photos in a folder by the standard method of using the left and right arrow keys in the XnView menu bar at the top of the page. However, I wonder if it is possible to set the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard to do the same job.

Re: Autocropping and adding margins for scanned book pages
Thanks for the replies.
I'll try converting to black and white, although I think that the problem could possibly be connected with scanning a page at a time in a bedroom. I shall consider the options of carefully cleaning the platen after each page versus not having to put the rest of my life on ...

Autocropping and adding margins for scanned book pages
I am proceeding in teaching myself how to edit scanned book pages and there are a couple of aspects that you may be able to advise on.
1) I am now au fait (I think!) with the use of tolerance in Autocropping but my experience with my particular setup (flatbed scanner, one page at a time, household ...

Re: Improving the quality of a scanned old book
Thanks for the replies. I shall have a look at XnView MP. However, I am starting to wonder if what I want is really possible. As far as I've ever been aware, increasing the contrast lightens the light areas and darkens the dark areas. Whilst this whitens the background, viewing the letters at ...
