Re: Moving through photos on an Android phone

Perhaps if I explain in detail the problem it might clarify things. I plug the phone into a USB on my PC and go through the procedure on the phone for allowing transfer of photos by PTP. I go into Windows Explorer and the folder on the phone containing my photos is accessible in Windows Explorer. I ...

Moving through photos on an Android phone

XnView Ver 1.73 running under Win 10 Home 64bit with Creators update. Phone Moto G4 with Android 7.0. The recent Win 10 Creators update seems to have messed up the Photos app (at least on my PC). Specifically, advancing forwards and backwards though a folder of jpeg photos seems to have become a ver...

Moving through photos in a folder

I have Ver 2.34 running under Win 10 Home.

I run through photos in a folder by the standard method of using the left and right arrow keys in the XnView menu bar at the top of the page. However, I wonder if it is possible to set the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard to do the same job.

Re: Autocropping and adding margins for scanned book pages

Thanks for the replies. I'll try converting to black and white, although I think that the problem could possibly be connected with scanning a page at a time in a bedroom. I shall consider the options of carefully cleaning the platen after each page versus not having to put the rest of my life on hol...

Autocropping and adding margins for scanned book pages

I am proceeding in teaching myself how to edit scanned book pages and there are a couple of aspects that you may be able to advise on. 1) I am now au fait (I think!) with the use of tolerance in Autocropping but my experience with my particular setup (flatbed scanner, one page at a time, household d...

Re: Improving the quality of a scanned old book

Thanks for the replies. I shall have a look at XnView MP. However, I am starting to wonder if what I want is really possible. As far as I've ever been aware, increasing the contrast lightens the light areas and darkens the dark areas. Whilst this whitens the background, viewing the letters at increa...

Improving the quality of a scanned old book

I have scanned the pages of an old paperback of mine. The results are grayscale, 200dpi jpegs. Whilst the results are readable their general appearance leaves something to be desired; there are large areas of light brown (is this what is called foxing?). Is there any way of "whitening" the...

Re: Automatic cropping of scanned pages

Many thanks. Yes, increasing the tolerance to 200 (I left the colour at white) seems to solve the problem. As I'm scanning one page at a time on a platen this 'first dark pixel' could be a possible problem as there are occasional small bits of dirt on the platen. Although I suppose it would be fail-...

Automatic cropping of scanned pages

I am attempting to automatically crop the text from scanned book pages. The files are jpegs. My procedure is to first straighten the pages with Auto de-skew in XnView, which works perfectly. I then use XnConvert to lightly crop the borders to square up the pages. I then apply Automatic cropping in X...

Re: Tidying up straightened book pages

Many thanks for the replies. Yes, now I've discovered how to use it, resetting the canvas size seems to be the way forward. My procedure now is to straighten the pages in XnView with Auto Deskew, then tidy up the results in XnConvert with Actions set consecutively to Crop and then Canvas resize. Wit...

Re: Tidying up straightened book pages

NOTE: The above figures are appearing in reverse order. The first one is the final cropped figure. The second one is the auto deskewed figure. The third one is the original figure, as scanned.

Tidying up straightened book pages

XnView 2.34 & XnConvert 1.70 running under Win 7 Professional x64 SP1. I have a scanned book (jpeg files) and the pages are slightly skew. Auto Deskew in XnView does an excellent job of batch processing and straightening the pages but I would like to tidy them up by removing the narrow black tri...
