I think IrfanView is beating out XnView MP in this one area.
I'd like to be able to add one (Caption Writer) to a bunch of new JPEG files but I can't find anywhere in the app that enables batch annotations.
Any help here will be much appreciated.

(MP 1.83 Windows) No xnview.ini. Why not?
The xnview.ini file was the easiest way, in my experience, to delete unwanted tags which otherwise appear in autocomplete. If there's indeed a registry entry where the same things can be edited, as I've read in this Forum regarding other versions for Windows 10 and 11, please let me know.

Re: Please make IPTC "Title" more accessible
First pane of "Edit IPTC" or "Edit XMP"? Where did you find Object Name, how was it labelled, and was/is it an editable tag in MP?

Re: Please make IPTC "Title" more accessible
This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.8.1 . Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
I'm using 1.8.1, the Windows port
I've been looking for half an hour and I still don't see it. "Title" (which shows up as Document Title in other GUI apps capable of editing IPTC tags) I do see ...

Comments in Full view don't update after changes
Changes from an outside utility, such as the infamous Exiv2.
For about a month, many maintenance upgrades ago, they would change on reloading an image. Since then, update after update, they haven't been doing so, prompting me to close the image, return to Browser, and reopen the file to see the ...

Thanks for enlarging the Caption window in "Edit IPTC/XMP."
I can't find the original post, but I remember making this suggestion. Thanks to Pierre or XnTriq for following through.

Re: (Kubuntu 19.04) v0.93.1 64bits -- won't add Colour Space to thumbnail tags
As requested.
Please return the Colour Space tag to the next dot-upgrade or full version.
You will notice it is Missing in the relevant PNG file below.
Attaching a picture file to this post would be irrelevant since I use Exiftool on the command line to add colour space sRGB. Even more rarely ...

(Kubuntu 19.04) v0.93.1 64bits -- won't add Colour Space to thumbnail tags
I got another laptop, with Windows 8 installed. The identical version for Windows allowed this. In this build, it's not in the list of insert-able tags and when I add it by hand using any of the syntaxes with which I am familiar, all it shows are the words "Colour Space" (instead of, for example ...

Keep us "dinosaurs" in the loop please.
I noticed version 0.92, in the .deb version, is only for x64. I'm not sure if I've enabled my i686 Dell laptop[1] to install such apps, or if it is indeed possible. Are you going to abandon your Linux user-base to those who can afford relatively new hardware?
If so. Honte à toi
Please advise.

Re: The picture does not update
@Walman :
In your screenshots, i didn't see either a Reopen or a Reload (hotkey:Ctrl-R). Look for it in View mode.
When I run into a stubborn (read:unchanged) thumbnail, I usually use View>Rebuild thumbnails (Bugger; no hotkey in Ubuntu's repo version), first selecting the "offender." It ...

MP 0.89 x86: What happened to extrapolated/estimated resolution?
I customise the Info shown in View mode with every new version I install of MP. And I always include Resolution in that information.
But in the above-named version, there's no longer an option under Tools>View>Info>Insert>Image selections. It's plainly missing in my install. All I can use is {EXIF ...

Re: Two items in 0.86 that bother me.
Captions will not display the correct letters, but XMP Dublin Core Descriptions do, when the setting is as I described in my last post.

Re: 0.85 x86: Reload doesn't reload Comment for view.
Well, it's been more than a year, and the version I now have installed is 0.89. The problem persists, but I'm now inclined to think it's my system hardware (Dell Inspiron 1720, 2GB RAM). Mainly because, in the interim versions, installed from debs here and on the Ubuntu repositories, the issue ...

Re: Two items in 0.86 that bother me.
Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but...
I presume you meant, in Settings>Metadata>Encoding, to change from "Locale" to "UTF-8." I did that and now I'm going to look for a pic that displayed the garbage character in its IPTC Caption. I'll add another post to this thread if there's been no ...

Re: Take out "Supplemental Categories" for IPTC
Sorry to be stubborn about this. But I'm really keen on seeing this taken out of future versions.
