digiKam has this habit, buttons all over the place, it requires a lot of mouse movements. While improvements are generally a good thing, I find this one unnecessary and troublesome.

And, perhaps, interface changes could be less frequent, even when they do improve the usage, they are disturbing by ...

Settings - General - Save session on program exit

Renaming profile from ...125cdm²... to ...125cdm2... removes the problem.

Enabling the metadata management of archived images looks an overly complicated and mostly unneeded feature to me, more like a caprice.

I can't reproduce the problem, all umlauts are OK here. Perhaps check settings - metadata - encoding:

(The "embedded comment" is, so it looks, in utf-8 in this case, but there are all kinds of them still fooling around.)

As far as I know, most photographers are strictly avoiding writing anything to raw files, dng format being an exception. I would not want to do this by accident.

Just to be clear: is it actually meant to be possible to write metadata into raw files?

ExifTool shows exif metadata, you might have some sort of "issue" with it.

For some reason, I can see exif data in this file; ExifToolGUI.

I have noticed that using "Edit IPTC" on raw photos (without an existing sidecar file) makes ExifTool write metadata into the raw file (creating an _original backup, if set so), while it should, I suppose, only create a sidecar file. This might be a bug. "Edit XMP" behaves as expected.

Just a small remark:

I am using XnView MP with English GUI, while I am writing country names in my native language.

Please, keep this possible somehow. In digiKam, it is not possible because of how synchronisation between country codes and country names is done. English GUI enforces country names ...

I am using this feature all the time!
