I can no longer reproduce this problem, though I don't know of anything I did.
Please considered it resolved for now

Re: UTF-8 issue under Mint 18.2

It was set to Locale for both Win 10 & Mint. But ... after doing more low level testing of the actual image files on the two machines, I have to check out some other issues with the software that backed up these files and that which unpacked them. For now at least, there is a difference in the f...

UTF-8 issue under Mint 18.2

As I am working with Gramps and image metadata a fair bit, I have just installed XnViewMP 0.86 under Mint 18.2 and have come across a curious issue, possibly related to UTF-8 & German Umlauts, perhaps not. I am attaching two screenshot and basically the issue is that, under Linux, in the categor...

Re: Categories pane greyed out for files on USB stick

That's how it works when the file is on a hard drive, but not after I move the same directory to a thumb drive. As a test, I tried to write some data using Irfanview to the files on the thumb drive and it worked. I had verified that the read-only bit was NOT on and the second test with Irfanview con...

Re: Categories pane greyed out for files on USB stick

My apologies for the delay - I was away for a few days.
The attached screen shots show the same files.
One lives on a USB stick, the other on the local hard drive

Categories pane greyed out for files on USB stick

Just downloaded 0.87 64-bit - running under Win 10 For image files on a USB stick the categories pane is greyed out. All files have had their read-only bit reset and running "dir /a:/r" shows no files while dir alone shows them all. For the same directory on a local hard drive the pane wor...

Check for Update does not find latest release?

I have a desktop with XnViewMP Version 0.86 64bits (Apr 25 2017) as per 'About' box and a laptop, also with XnviewMP and its 'About' dialog says it is Version 0.87 64bits (Sep 7 2017). Both tell me that I have the latest release when I check for updates from the 'Help' menu  Both PCs are runn...

Re: Force rescan of a directory/drive?

What would have been lost if I had simply deleted the whole drive from the catalog and then added the new drive? Rating/label/categories if you save them in catalog. You mean, all the additional data I might have added only to the DB would be lost, but if I had saved it also to metadata inside the ...

Re: Force rescan of a directory/drive?

Thank you for that information, though in my case, with a rather large percentage of the data in this large and deep tree, it is very tedious, time consuming and thus very error prone :-( Aside from that and, at least in my case, it would be helpful if the 'relocate' dialog would remember its size b...

Force rescan of a directory/drive?

Recently, I had to change drive letters on one of my main hard drives with loads of pictures. XnViewMP(XP) had these indexed and some had metadata added and/or were added to specific categories. When I open XP now, I can find images assigned to a specific category, XP shows the thumbnail and the non...
