The image file was modifies with the data some time ago.

selecting Settings -> Metadata -> encoding -> IPTC -> UTF-8 correct the problem..

Unfortunately, for myself, the abundance of options makes the learning curve very steep.

My image contains a string of keywords, with the default separator '|'
The keyword strings show correctly in the Edit IPTC-IIM dialog, where they were entered, but in the Info ->IPTC-IIM pane the UTF-8 string is not shown correctly.

@xnview I have just noticed that not all images in the same directory exhibit the same problem. One in particular seems to tick all the proper boxes, as far as I can tell at this point, so quite possibly the problem lies in the meshing of my categories tree and the actual data in both the database ...

Whether the DB interface has changed, I can't be sure. There have been a couple of updates since I added the data to the test image. It is even possible that I modified the Categories structure. A detailed change log or version control would be very useful, but I have not figured out how to accompli...

Because I assume that by adding any particular application's name here, that application would be blamed for any and all issues left behind by any previous tool.
