"File Name" is not a selectable field in search

I noticed today that File Name is not one of the selectable fields in Search. So I can't easily search for all files with "Panorama" and "Caribbean" in the name, for example.

I also noticed that it works if I choose "All fields", so the functionality is already in the tool. It just seems the ...

Read metadata from MP4 files

It would be great if XnView MP could read/write metadata (rating, keywords, comment etc.) from MP4 files.

With the advanced Search function in XnView it's by far the greatest file manager for digital assets. And I'm sure anyone who's managing thousands of digital image files is also managing ...

Re: Using Open with... to send an image to a batch file

Thanks michel038, I did some more digging and this is caused by an issue with the file associations on my PC, it's unrelated to XnView. I'll take my question to a PC forum to make some more progress, I appreciate your willingness to help, cheers!

Using Open with... to send an image to a batch file

I'm trying to configure a batch file as one of the programs to open an image with, but it's not launching as expected. It appears XnView isn't passing the image name correctly to CMD. My xnview.ini is as follows:

OpenWith=C:/Windows/System32/cmd.exe
OpenWithName=Test
OpenWithParam="/c c:\tools\test ...

Re: Any tips for managing non-image files?

Thanks Pierre. I enabled sidecar XMP files but so far it only seems to store rating and rating colour labels in the XMP file. If I assign a Category to a file it isn't stored. Would like to see XnView able to map Keywords in and out of this file, but again, I understand I'm trying to force an image ...

Any tips for managing non-image files?

XnView MP is an absolute godsend for managing tonnes of image files, and I make heavy use of keywords and the advanced search function to spend less time filing and more time finding images in my library.

The problem is most of us also have large video libraries as well, interspersed with our ...

AutoComplete in file dialogs

This is something that essentially all competitors have. When in move / file / save dialogs it would be great to have an autocomplete function. Typing in something like this:

C:\My Pictures\Photography\Stills\Black & White

is very cumbersome. In a tool like ACD you can reduce the number of ...

Add option to Cancel All when moving/copying files

If you select, let's say, 50 files and try to move them to a folder that doesn't exist, there should be a button to "Cancel All" if you don't want to create the folder. As it stands today you will be prompted 50 times if you want to create the destination folder or Cancel. Once for each file you ...

Option to not sort folders with files

In XnView, when you sort files by date, it also sorts the folders by date, giving you an odd mish-mash of files interspersed with folders. Most other programs will sort files by date, but always leave folders sorted alphabetically at the top of the list. It would be nice if this was an option in ...

Add autocomplete in all file dialogs

This is a feature in most competitive products and it really saves time if you move a lot of files around and your image library contains a large number of subfolders.

If you go to move a file and start by typing in " C:\Images\Scenes\Wedd " it should autocomplete to " C:\Images\Scenes\Wedd ing ...

Re: Is there an autocomplete function in file dialogs?

Thanks Pierre for answering. I hope you'll consider adding this feature as both FS and ACD have it and it's very convenient. That said, XnView is far superior to either of those products, so I'm not complaining!

Is there an autocomplete function in file dialogs?

Is there a hotkey or any other way to autocomplete a file or folder name while typing it in a dialog?

My image library is massive and they are often nested several subfolders deep. When I hit Alt+M to move a file, I don't want to have to type:

X:\photos\candid\weddings\receptions

in its entirety ...
