Perplexed by Metadata Panel
Have been using XnView-MP for some time and just recently noticed something I could NOT explain. It has to do with tabs on the MetaData Pane as follows: XnViewMP-MetaData.png Up until now I assumed that the XMP tab would result in displaying the metadata that is encoded in XMP format. However, the d...

Metadata NOT preserved
Could NOT find any documentation that describes what the Output Option "Preserve Metadata" means. I do know that there are lots of different kinds of metadata. In my case we are referring to photography and the still image files produced by a camera. Checking the "Preserve Metadata" Option appears t...

Re: What's displayed when viewing raw image files
It depends on Settings>View - Camera RAW. If you select 'embedded preview', XnView try to extract the embedded JPEG, else RAW will loaded. Well now, I was NOT familiar with that setting. However, I noticed something quite interesting. My curiosity about this arose because of some issues that arose ...

What's displayed when viewing raw image files
One of the nice things about XnView (MP in my case) is the ability to view (display image for) raw files (e.g., that came in lots of different proprietary formats). I've always assumed that what I'm looking at is what is called the "Preview Image". I think that is in jpg format and would be created ...

Yes, this would be a very desirable improvement. In my case CR2 (Canon) raw files are what is needed.

Re: Is there a way to view system and/or hidden files?
Whoops! My fault. It looks like there is a setting for XnView similar to Windows File Explorer that allows hidden files to either be seen or remain hidden. Really pretty simple. Sorry about failing to find that prior to posting.

Is there a way to view system and/or hidden files?
Been using XnView for a long time and haven't yet noticed that it won't display system files. However, I now find myself wanting to inspect some album art created by Windows Media Player but NOT having any luck. Is there a way that XnView can be used to do this?

Preview of text files?
I've noticed that XnViewMP displays text in the preview frame when the file extension is "txt". Is there a way to customize such that that a user can designate other file extensions that contain text?

Yes! The thumbnail views in XnView/MP are excellent! I'm just wanting to improve some of what is bad about Windows

Re: Substitute for Windows Photo Viewer?
That has the affect of starting XnViewMP (XnView) which is a lot more than a substitute for Windows Photo Viewer. For example, I'd like a simple window with the photo displayed and a button for closing directly. That would be kind of like the window that XnView displays when you say open with a file...

Substitute for Windows Photo Viewer?
Does XnViewMP (or XnView) contain a program that could be used as a substitute for Windows Photo Viewer (WPV). By substitute I mean can be launched from Windows Explorer (WE) when a file is double clicked. In that, specified as the program to be used to open files with the associated file extension....

Folders omitted when browsing with libraries
On Windows 7 specifically, and possibly other versions, there is something called libraries. They allow users to combine whatever folders (i.e., directories) from the file system that a user chooses to associate with a single (Library) name. Strangely it seems that the XnViewMP browser includes the ...

What image is displayed for raw files
It is very nice that XnViewMP displays an image for the raw files produced by my camera. Insofar as raw files have yet to be developed that causes me to be a bit curious about what is being displayed. It is my understanding that raw file formats normally contain an embedded jpg image that has been d...

Incorporate support for hard links
Just recently discovered XnView/XnViewMP and even though still learning how to use have a very favorable opinion of this tool. At the same time I'm fairly new to digital image processing and still in the process of trying to develop effective work-flow methods. However, something that seems to be mo...
