Hi, I experienced this weird behaviour as well.
I'll keep it short: it happened to me only for one specific Gimp-file that I noticed had a guide in it, unlike most of my other gimp-files. You know a vertical, manually added snap/guide line. I removed it, resaved the xcf-file and viola! - Xnview ...
