I use categories to tag all kinds of things about pictures, so I have a ton of categories (dozens? hundreds! and hierarchical, of course). Currently using the search window when you try to add categories to search for, you get a big scroll down menu with all hierarchies expanded. Needless to say ...

Things got fixed. Having Xnview create a new ini file did it. (Probably something was weird in the ini created by an older Xnview.)

Yes, previews do work. (Very occasionally not when switching from a playing animation to another gif, but that's a different issue.)

I don't have thumbnails for gif files in explorer. (Oddly there are thumbnails for gifs on the icon of a folder containing gifs.)
