Same here.
It starts OK, can paste image from clipboard and even successfully save it to any supported format, but can't open any image!
Previous ver. 2.52.1 worked fine, so something was critically changed in 2.52.2

Bug in the latest ver. 4.2.0.0: some mysterious "f" (placeholder?) in context menu instead of the image size

On x32 Win XP no problems on the first sight, preview and all works, but if click "Options..." - there is just appear completely invisible window, blocking Explorer and everything! Thanks God it can be closed by ESC.
No such bug in the previous 4.1.5

Same should be done with XnViewShellExt too, because there are the same problems with wrong colors in preview when using Susie plugins

To view AVIF in XnView you can try Susie plugins

So there are now folder with plugins next to XnViewShellExt.dll ?
With the same plugins that are already in XnView\Plugins\ ?
So you need DOUBLE amount of the same plugins, one for XnView itself and second for XnViewShellExt.dll to ...
