Thank you for suggestion but it's not exactly what I need.
For a standard XnView use, I need the browser and I want the browser to be opened first.
And for some applications which need an image viewer, I'd like to open the image viewer only. So different behavior, depending ...

Is there a way to open the application in image viewer mode only? I.e. not opening the browser? I.e. the image is opened in a viewing window and when closing this window, the application is closed? This is for other programs which need an external image viewing application. Thanks. Mathias.

Again some more information after some additional tries.
When using the category panel, and also when rating or setting colors to images, XMP synchronization works well. But only for those items. Which is already cool. IPTC data are missing here and I need them in other contexts.

This would be a good workaround for a missing feature in XnView: export all metadata, not only keywords but also IPTC (caption, headline, copyright, location etc) to XMP sidecar files. This is the actual missing feature.

The bug about XnView writing metadata directly in the CR2 files when hitting "Write to all files" is still there and needs to be corrected because it's not possible to update metadata for several pictures at once without impacting the raw files.
