OK, libheif was the right hint and the problem was rely on an Linux issue.
I 've tested with Mint21.3 where it worked.
Then I've installed a newer version of libheif from strukturag (unfortunateley with some error messages and now I can open the avif-pictures.

Synaptic says, that libheif1 v1.6.1-1build1 is installed.
I think that is what you mean.

I've tried to open an avif, but XnView MP 1.8.7 under Linux Mint 20.3 only shows error message: "Fehler beim Öffnen der Datei" (Error on opening file).
I can open the file with an online viewer, so the file should be OK.

Do anybody know what is going wrong?

On first start XNview MP ask for the prefered "color scheme" ("Farbschema" in Geman). I would like to test all variants of it now but I don't find it in the option menu.

Please how can I find the option?

I do not need the function often so I can use paint.net for it furthermore.

I tested but nconvert 6.80 does not set variables and makes the outputfile: "Test___YYMMDD.jpg"

when I type Shift+E for menu window "Einstellen" (german version) there is only the title bar and nothing else.

I used this functions sometimes so that I am sure that it worked. What could be the reason that it does not work anymore?

What are reasonable parameters for this option? I think 72 dpi is default but you cannot read a normal letter. 300 dpi makes XnView slow. I think 200dpi is a goog compromise.

when I print more than one PNG to PDFCreator the result is a huge file.

For example there are 2 PNGs with 4960x7015 pixel (600dpi)
When I print them separately the results are approx. 110 kB. That's OK.

When I mark both files and print them together the PDF file is 1,7 MB.
