No, I’ve never used it (or any other batch convert options, for that matter).

My problem is simply that, for whatever reason, XnView keeps using massive amounts of memory. Basically, every time I open it, it starts normally but even if I just stay in the browser the amount of memory it uses keeps increasing until the whole thing freezes. Thank you, but I think I found the solution myself - the issue had nothing to do with the images themselves but was (probably) actually caused by the external drive I was using. Copying the files into another location and replacing the originals with the copies fixed everything. I'm still not sure ...

I did, but that didn't change anything.

for some reason, many of my files don’t seem to have any properties etc. These files also open on the Preview app instead of XnView.

The thumbnails and previews are shown normally, I can see the actual properties in Finder and there doesn’t seem to be any issues when the files open in Preview ...
