Are you sure you downloaded the original picture (there's a link on the right side of the page, something like "Download Photo") and not the reduced version? If you right click the picture and choose "Save picture as" you'll download the dynamically resized version, wich has no metadata. You must ...
I noticed now that in 1.93 the problem seems partly solved: try opening the linked image. The print size is now correctly calculated with a dpi value of 300, but if you switch to "Thumbnails and Details" mode, in the properties column the dpi value shown is 72x72

Please do not remove the makernotes! The great thing about xnview is that it doesn't alter them: these maker fields contains sometimes fundamental informations for photo workflow ^_^ So please, if you choose to do so, at least make it user selectable or give a big, big big warning popup
