Re: Questions/Comments on New Features in 1.9.4
Thanks for your answer
Did I restart : Yes many times. I started the trial with 1.9.4
I haven't seen that happen. There's nothing under Date or Properties at all?
Are you sure your files have the appropriate metadata?
Please post a screenshot of your catalog filter pane showing the Date and ...

Re: Questions/Comments on New Features in 1.9.4
I've done this quite a few times and I keep getting that stupid message to update the catalog every time XnviewMP launches. Every. Single. Time. From 1.9.4 to the current 1.95. It never goes away.
On what OS? Make sure your xnview.db and xnview.ini are not read-only. If on Windows, try running ...

Re: Histogram seems broken in Browse
Try downloading a fresh copy of the app, preferably the portable (zip) version.
Run it with a clean .ini file and database, and see if the histogram works. If it does, something’s wrong with your current installation or settings.

Re: Apply ratings to companion files
Ideally, I want a set-up that mimics this :
- I shoot in RAW+JPG, so after importing I want files to be linked so that I do not see duplicated images.
- I want the actions I perform through the culling process to be applied to each photo (If I rate an image, the rating applies to the companion ...

Without a screenshot of how you're filling out the search dialog, it's hard to say for sure what's happening. First, I would suggest, just as a test, putting something unique (like ZZZZZ) in the city field just to make sure it's unique.

Re: Images look oversaturated
You want it to match Photoshop, so you really need to look and see how Photoshop is configured.

How to Install or Upgrade ExifTool
Pierre asked for some instructions for user on how to upgrade their Exiftool, so I thought I would post this here.
These instructions are for versions of XnViewMP 1.9.5 or higher. With v1.9.5, XnViewMP finally ships with a modern version of ExifTool. If you are running an older version of XnViewMP ...

Re: EXIF values in browser details and metadata panel are not consistent
Just for you, I deleted the database and did the same thing. The DPI field is correctly filled out for all files now that the DB is rebuilt (which forces a metadata refresh).
But...

Re: oversaturation
It sounds like you don't have things configured properly.
The short answer is: If you go into settings in XnViewMP, both the Thumbnail and View pages have options to use gamma correction.
But those settings shouldn't be necessary if you have your system set up properly.

Re: How do I BATCH RENAME 800 mp4 files?
If all your files match that pattern exactly, then you should be able to do this using regular expressions. You'll have to use info that's in the file name, because other than filesystem data (like creation date, modification date, etc) I don't think XnViewMP will use metadata in videos for renaming ...

Re: EXIF values in browser details and metadata panel are not consistent
Yes.
Since when did "update catalog from files" become a requirement to get details view to display properly? Something is not right about that.
If I do update catalog from files, it now shows DPI in details view, but it does NOT fix the problem with the Ratio column.

Ratio is no longer backwards. It now shows 4:3 for Landscape images, and 3:4 for Portrait images, which is correct.

That makes me think you're not running 1.9.4. Check Help->About to make sure. [Edit: I see you did in your first post; thanks]

Re: How to use Exiftool in XnView MP Flatpack install?
...The exiftool tab doesn't work, but Thumbnails are more important.
Eddified,
With version 1.9.4, XnViewMP now allows for using a locally installed version of Exiftool.
Go to Tool->Settings:Integration:Paths
There you will find an option for "Exiftool path". Use the picker to point this ...
