So the only thing i can do currently is to wait what happens with the IPTC support in XNView.

i don't think that this post describes the way i propose.

Olivier_G proposed to store everything in an IPTC field.

I suggest to go the other way around.

Extend the database which already exists in XNView. Add all the IPTC fields to it. Modify the dialogs in the program so they read ...

It seems that noone supports my suggestion to have one database for all additional data like categories, IPTC data and all other stuff stored for evey picture and have a background task which syncs a part of the values to the pictures.

something comes to my mind which can bring a lot of advantages to work with IPTC.

My suggestion is to have all the IPTC data in the database. read and write only there and have a background task which synchronizes this data between the database and the pictures. This would mean only one place ...

additional issue found

<Y> inb folder name doe not add the Year with century. It does the same as <y>

<D> does the same as <d> it adds the date not the day only.

Hi,

it seems that i you have two similar pictures one as RAW and the other as JPG, as i can configure it on my Pentax, the JPG picture will not get the IPTC data.

same for me no matter if you use # or ## or #####

It ever prints a # in the file name not a number. Also i have problems to copy the files to two destinations. The second destination will be empty after the import. Directory is created but the file runs in an error because the file no longer on the ...

Same for me. I tried a lot of applications to sort, manage and find pistures. But nearly all does this in its own format and style. So i'm searching since a long time for an application which realy supports IPTC in a way you can use this. This is my major topic on a wish list.

I'm too. normaly i name my pictures

IMG_Date_Time.extension

(Exif date and Exif time). This prevents form having double names. At least normaly. Only if you make serial shots than you will have more than one picture per second. Thsi would mean i need a serial number behind to prevent double names ...

From my point of view it should be OK.

Normally i have as an example

The category people and than a lot of different peoples as keywords like

mum, dad, aunt and so on.

So if i'm searching for a specific picture were my grandpa is shown i will search for the word grandpa in the search dialog ...

For e it seems that the categories added to picture using drag and drop are not IPTC categories. At least i saw nothing changng when i add the picture to a category in the IPTC data
