Re: Rotation and EXIF Orientation field

do you have some sample files? They are in the attached zip file two posts above: testcases-badorientation.zip . That longer post also describes conditions for reproducing. [*]There seem to be very different rules applied when saving after rotation in the Browser compared to single image view. Ther...

Re: Rotation and EXIF Orientation field

A short(er) summary : There were not as many orientation bugs as I initially thought, but the important factor is to test all variations of tag and actual orientation . Some were actual orientation bugs, and some were bugs in the way that XnViewMP generated or used the thumbnail. Because XnViewMP s...

Re: Rotation and EXIF Orientation field

Here is my set of test case images attached: testcases-badorientation.zip They are named mode- n _xxx where the mode number is defined in my post above. Modes 0 and 1 will display correctly with a viewer that obeys the Exif orientation tag. Modes 0 and 3 will display correctly with a viewer that ign...

Re: Rotation and EXIF Orientation field

Hi Cameron, I agree with tour recommendation, this is the way I use XnView for the reason you exposed. I wonder if you posted it in the wrong topic? This one is about a bug where the application forget to reset the orientation tag to 1. I explain how to reproduce. There is another topic about the o...

Re: Rotation and EXIF Orientation field

No wonder this is hard to get right. I have just spent two days (not full time) accumulating test cases and testing under various conditions. I ended up with 26 test images, each tested under 4 different option conditions, under 3 different rotation operations. And that is by no means exhaustive, ex...

Re: 0.84 and 0.85b2 - list details vanish on restart

I just tried a Win10 x64 system and cannot reproduce it with the same folders. you have the problem on which OS? Win 10 x64 I cannot reproduce. Win 7 x64 desktop I can reliably reproduce Win 7 x64 laptop I can occasionally (maybe 25%) reproduce logged on as me, but cannot reproduce logged on as my ...

Re: 0.84 and 0.85b2 - list details vanish on restart

so it's always after an IPTC editing? yes. are you able to reproduce with lastest version? Hi Pierre, the bug still exists in v0.90 x64. But my previous comment about needing to create IPTC is not correct. Now it is misbehaving completely reliably (but I have not tried the other PCs yet) Simply bro...

Re: Meltdown, Spectre and XnView Projects

i don't know, but i think that patch must be applied on OS From what I understand Meltdown requires OS patch. Spectre is open to abuse at the application level, provided that there is some way to load executable code, such as javascript or independently compiled plugins. Firefox has issued two work...

Re: Copy/backup catalog info by folder

... The compilation use case B) would greatly benefit from albums as described here . But then again, while avoiding image copies, the rating issue would even be worse... The current lack of album implementation in xnview is one of the reasons that I keep using Picasa. I then use Picasa's export to...

Re: IPTC Keywords help – 3 days of reading is getting me no closer

... The subcategories, I missed them because I was looking for keywords, not categories and when I first fiddled the categories weren't being written as keywords.... That's the beauty and the curse of something as flexible as XnViewMP - you need to know how to set up what you want before you start ...

Re: Copy/backup catalog info by folder

I guess this is a "all or nothing" decision - use XMP inside the image or in a sidecar? Or could I write some XMP info into the image file while having other parts being written to the sidecar? Not that I am aware of. You could keep some info as IPTC in the image file but I think all XMP must be in...

Re: Loading database in order to search

...The only thing I would like is for the Caption line in the IPTC-IMM info box to be able to show several lines so the complete caption shows there and you do not need to scroll or to press Ctrl + I to read all of the caption. I have the following in Settings->Browser->tooltip (the large text entr...

Re: Loading database in order to search

Geoff, I don't understand why you need to untick the "use db", unless you have not yet scanned all the folders. Try Settings->catalog->Add Folder and choose your top level folder. This will add all metadata to the DB (note - nothing to do with the thumbnail db) and it should generally give a faster ...

Re: name of external drive in different computers

BasePath is to use relative path for the folder of your photos I understand that much, but I thought that the BasePath mechanism only works if the original PC has the base path defined at the time the DB entry for the folder is created. I think if you only change basePath on the second PC then it w...
